And also because the element of surprise is what makes these both strange (in a good way) and enjoyable.ĭemmer takes many everyday situations, like opening Christmas presents or stopping in a restroom, and very creatively turns them on their head. By the time I give you the gist, you might as well read the story itself. I’m not inclined to summarize each story here. I just prefer to read them in the light of day. They range from those I’d like to read more about to those I’d be inclined to leave in the freezer overnight so as not to disturb the creatures within. The descriptions are intense, and Demmer’s use of language is unique.Įvery story is strong. I’m in awe of the atmospheric, creepy tales he creates in so few words. Each word is considered and not one is wasted. With 23 stories, the book numbers just 83 pages. Calvin Demmer creates a gruesome collection of flash fiction in The Sea Was a Fair Master.

Poet of metamorphoses5/21/2023 In her new book Black Metamorphoses, Vermont poet Shanta Lee has opened what she calls "a 2,000+ year-old phone line to Ovid." In "Blessed Black," she describes herself as "Applying Ovid's / Pythagorean theory: / Black bodies shapeshift." Gods and people mingle, and a human might suddenly change into a plant or animal. In Ovid's volatile cosmos, things - magically, erotically, sometimes violently - transform into other things. Beloved to Dante, Chaucer, Shakespeare and Bob Dylan alike, this is a multilayered verse epic melding the natural and supernatural. In exile, Ovid wrote his most famous work, Metamorphoses. Many historians think Augustus condemned Ovid for the purported obscenity of his Ars Amatoria ( The Art of Love), a poetic guide to seduction. In his early fifties, Ovid offended the emperor and was banished from Rome to a remote town on the Black Sea. His works, along with those of his contemporaries Virgil and Horace, are among the most enduring and influential of classical Latin poetry. The Roman poet Ovid lived from 43 BC to 17 or 18 AD, during the reign of Caesar Augustus. Handling the undead5/21/2023 If you love Lindqvist or really trippy, modern Lovecratian horror stories, then you'll probably like this one.in fact, some understanding of the mythos is necessary to fully appreciate some of these stories, otherwise some cannot be truly appreciated at all. Totally transcending genre writing, these are world class stories from possibly the most impressive horror writer writing today.Ĥ*. Every story meets the very high standard of excellence and fright factor that Lindqvist fans have come to expect. “Equinox” is a story of a woman who takes care of her neighbor’s house while they are away and readers will never forget what she finds in the house. What she said and ask Emilia to do was horrible. I was also disappointed in Carter’s and Kate’s mom, Helen, on how she treated Emilia in book 2. I don’t know how anyone could let another person talk to them the way Kate talks to Emilia and not lose their shit! If anyone was a selfish bitch, it was Kate! Stolen Moments and Illicit Promises had me so frustrated that there were several times I just wanted to stop reading. When I started this series I thought to myself I read this book before…Īnd then I read that this series was indeed under another name called Mayhem, but the more I kept reading the more I came to conclusion that I’m just getting it mixed up with another book that had some similarities, because I would’ve remember a bitch Kate in any book!Ĭarter and Emilia love story is definitely a roller coaster ride and the angst in this book is high. 4 frustrating Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (review is for Stolen Moments and Illicit Promises books) This is how it always is review5/21/2023 Ultimately, my 8-year-old was thrilled with the Weeler, and my 10-year-old was happy with the Blipper. My 10-year-old also was not comfortable on the Weeler, but she fits perfectly on the Blipper. The Blipper was more comfortable for him, but he was still pushing the limit of it. My 12-year-old is six feet tall, and the Weeler was far too small for him. Of course, this will highly depend on the child’s build. The company says the Weeler is made for ages 6 to 12, but my 10-year-old had a hard time using it. The seats are comfortable, although the riding position can be awkward for some. LOL.īoth of these electric bikes are built tough, and they are simple to assemble. My kids enjoyed zipping around on these electric bikes for hours, and we’ve had to actually say no a few times when they’re trying to get out of chores anyway. The Droyd Blipper and Weeler are, without a doubt, a ton of fun. AuthorWrite something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview. Archives
